Drawn with an exaggerated form, a young musician passionately plays the saxophone. The unique sound made by the saxophone from the visual artist’s perspective can only be expressed with lines and symbols moving in various directions on the work space.
Asaasi Yaa is the depiction of the mother earth or mother goddess of the Akan people of Ghana.
‘Asaasi’ means earth and ‘ Yaa’ is an Ashanti feminine given name originating from the Ashanti people and their Ashanti day naming system, meaning born on a Thursday.
Asase Yaa is the wife of Nyame the Sky deity, who created the universe.
The earth goddess is depicted with large breast which signify fertility and growth. She is responsible for feeding earth and she is worshipped in the agriculture field.
Asase Yaa is very powerful, though no temples are dedicated to her, instead, she is worshipped in the agricultural fields.
The work is created using water bubble technique.
